Many of you, like me, know and love homeopathy as a wonderfully safe and effective way to treat physical and emotional ailments that arise from time to time. When I was first exposed to it, though, I was highly skeptical that this ‘diluted water’ could possibly have any merit at all.
It was in the late 1980’s, and my uncle was working on developing a line of products that in time were to become Beaumont Bio-Med homeopathic remedies. I was milking cows at that time, and he asked me to try out some of his ‘concoctions’ on the unhealthiest cows in our herd.
According to our records, the ten worst cows on the farm were averaging almost 2,500,000 on the Somatic Cell Count (SCC) (link http:en.wikipedia.org/wike/Somatic_cell_count) test. These were the ones chosen to be our test animals. The easy part was choosing our test subjects; the hard part for me was not laughing in my uncle’s face when he told me how he wanted me to treat them.
Up until this point whenever we had a cow that was sick with mastitis our normal course of treatment would be to inject her with 50cc of medicine twice a day until she was better or, unfortunately, had to be sold because she wouldn’t respond to anything. This is what I had in mind when my uncle handed me a box full of tiny, brown, glass bottles and a teeny, tiny syringe. He instructed me to squirt one, yes – only ONE, cc of this stuff into their mouths twice daily.
Now at this point, I was firmly convinced that my uncle had lost his mind. But, since he was the one paying my wages I decided to play along with his little charade, just to humor him for a while until I could go back to doing things the way I’d always done them.
One month later, I was pretty much blown away by the results of our latest SCC test. That test group of ten cows had dropped from 2.5 million all the way down to just under 500,000 and all but one no longer showed any sign of mastitis or illness. This is all it took to convince me that there is indeed something to 'Homeopathy'. I knew that there was no placebo effect at work here! The fact that such a tiny amount of medicine could have such a profoundly positive influence on these large (up to 1,400 lb.) creatures really piqued my curiosity.
At that point, I began reading about and studying homeopathy and am convinced, almost a quarter of a century later, that it really is the safest, most effective method of treating what ails you and your family (or even your cow!!!) today.
